Tattoo Price Calculator

Plan a budget for getting a tattoo. Compare sizes and details using your artist’s rate, then bring the design to a consultation for a real quote.

Your planning estimate

$150–$300

Estimated session time: 1–2 hours

Based on $150/hour and a $80 shop minimum.

The starting rate of 150 and minimum of 80 are editable examples, not surveyed local prices. Enter your artist’s rate for a more relevant budget. Changing currency changes the label only; it does not convert prices.

Planning range only, not a quote. Travel, tax, tips, touch-ups, cover-ups and full sleeves are not included. Ask your artist for an individual assessment.

Compare your placement

How the estimate works

The starting session ranges are 0.5–1 hour for a tiny design, 1–2 hours for small, 2–4 hours for medium and 4–8 hours for large. These are planning assumptions, not measured averages. Detail multiplies that range by 1, 1.35 or 1.8; full color by 1.2; placement by 1, 1.15 or 1.3. Time is rounded up to the next quarter hour.

The tool multiplies that time by your hourly rate, applies your shop minimum, then rounds the range upward to the next 5 currency units. You can see the estimated hours and both price inputs beside the result. It does not use AI to invent prices.

What changes the final price?

Two designs with the same dimensions can take very different amounts of work. A simple outline may involve fewer passes than dense shading, realistic fur or many small color areas. Placement can also affect setup and working pace. These factors vary by artist, so discuss them instead of treating the multipliers as fixed rules.

Prepare for an artist consultation

Save the design, your preferred size in centimetres or inches, and a placement preview. Ask whether the quote includes design work, touch-ups or multiple sessions and how a deposit is applied. Budget separately for travel, applicable taxes and any tip you choose to leave.

This estimates the cost of a physical tattoo. TatTryOn’s optional AI credits are separate and described on Pricing. You can use the Classic simulator to compare a smaller and larger placement before contacting an artist.

Frequently asked questions

Is this an actual tattoo quote?

No. This is a planning model based on estimated working time and the rate you enter. Your artist’s experience, location, design preparation and individual assessment can produce a different quote.

Does the calculator know prices near me?

No location pricing database is used. The initial hourly rate of 150 and shop minimum of 80 are example inputs. Replace them with a local artist’s published rate or consultation estimate.

Does changing currency convert the amount?

No. Currency controls the display label only. Enter the hourly rate and minimum in the currency you choose; the calculator does not use exchange rates.

Are cover-ups and sleeves supported?

The model is for individual designs up to about 10 inches or 25 centimetres. Cover-ups, large multi-session projects and full sleeves need an artist’s assessment and are outside this estimate.
