Keep the linework readable
A sharp photograph is easier to convert than a blurred or heavily compressed image. Edge detection can pick up fur, fabric and background texture as unwanted lines. Reducing detail helps, but a simpler composition often makes a better reference than adding more processing.
Check the design at the size you intend to wear. A line that looks separate on a large screen may sit too close to another line in a small tattoo. Use the placement guide to compare areas, then ask your artist how the artwork should be adapted.
